Ms. Beth Caldwell is the Librarian at Old Fort Elementary. She has been in education for twenty-six years, holds a Master of Library Science degree, and is a National Board Certified Teacher.
Ms. Caldwell is the author of the Mabel is able series of character education books. The stories are written in rhyme. In the first book, Mabel Is Able, you meet Mabel, an adorable young orangutan missing out on life because she thinks that she is just not able. In the story Mabel discovers how to get a grip and decides no longer to let opportunities slip. Jack Gives A Smack is the second book in the series. Jack is a cute little kangaroo, but he makes others black and blue and when Jack gives you a hit, it takes a while for the hurt to quit. The book deals with coping strategies and learning self control. The third book, Ruth Tells The Truth is about honesty and will be released some time in the Fall of 2011. The Mabel character is the common thread through out the series and she will make an appearance in each book to help the main character make the right choice. Ms. Caldwell has about 20 books planned for the series.
When Ms. Caldwell reads aloud to children, she likes to choose books with positive messages. She believes that books are wonderful and powerful tools that can be used to encourage right behavior in children.
